AIHC (Alliance for Investment Human Capital)

People who move from institution to institution and from program to program are often considered to lack motivation, to refuse to accept personal responsibility for their condition or circumstance, and to not be able to function in a formal economy. In some cases, all or part of the above may be true. However, in our society, there should always be a willingness to invest in those who - when properly supported and trained - have the capacity to shift their paradigm from that of a consumer of social services to one of a contributor of social well being for themselves and the community in which they reside.

The Alliance for Investment Human Capital (AIHC) is designed to be just that type of investment. With a focus on building capacity to successfully engage the formal economy, the AIHC will provide a firm foundation in the Rule of Law (Ethics, Morals, Values, Norms, Culture, Conduct, Community, Institutions, and Support Systems) for its participants. Targeted populations shall include, but not be limited to:

§ Adjudicated offenders.
§ Persons with substance abuse.
§ Homeless.
§ Individuals with moderate behavioral challenges.

Up to twenty-five people transitioning from prison to communities will be housed up to one year in a residential education and training facility. The facility shall house individuals who have been paroled directly from county, state, and federal prisons, or have been released from a community corrections center.
In addition to the resident population, referrals and walk-ins will be accommodated for enrollment in ABE, ESL, and GED courses. Course offerings to train for vocational training for occupations with high demand in the Greater Philadelphia Region will be complemented with various curricula from the core education and training unit of ABO Haven, Inc. (Data Intensive Customer Service, Medical Terminology, Office Technology, Computer Trouble Shooting, etc.). Job readiness, placement, and retention services will be offered for those who complete these processes.

Finally, as part of the curriculum, topics such as financial literacy, home mortgages, navigating government resources, current events, personal health management, and an overview of our political system will be incorporated in order to provide a comprehensive approach to preparing individuals to function in the formal economy.

AIHC represents a residential education and training model which adds value to the community in which it resides. Employment of neighborhood residents, use of the facility for meetings, and meaningful community service performed by residents will be in offered for the community where AIHC is located. Highly trained, professional staff will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the facility. Career opportunities in case management, job development, accounting, residential advisors, and property management will comprise a staffing component that will contribute new jobs and revenue to the local economy.
